Cinema and musicals · Anniversary on 6 October 2026
The Moulin Rouge opened its doors in Paris on 6 October 1889. Its 137th anniversary is an opportunity to revisit a world connecting spectacle, music and cinema, and to remember Baz Luhrmann’s film starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.
From cabaret to screen
The venue was founded near Montmartre by Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler. Decades later, Moulin Rouge! (2001) turned this setting into a love story told through songs, colour and exuberant staging.
Technology is also part of the spectacle
Animal Logic explains that it created more than 300 visual effects for the film, including a digital reconstruction of Paris. This connection between creativity and technology fits BeroIT’s themes: digital tools also help build worlds and convey emotion.
Cinema, music and places that tell stories
This anniversary opens a space on the blog for films and musicals, their settings and their relationship with cultural tourism. A way to discover cities through the stories that stay with us.
